Much Ado about What to Do?

(A “Notes to Self” Series) Quote for Sunday, 24 February 2019 “Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” ― Mother Teresa This isn’t the first quote from Mother Teresa that I’ve grown fond of. However, it doesn’t mean that it has less significance. A lot of factors draws…

Able and Capable

(A “Notes to Self” Series) Quote for Saturday, 23 February 2019 “Yes We Can!” ― Barack Obama Those are just three words. Yet they are not bereft of meaning, potency, relevance or significance. You might be inclined to think that this is all about politics. I’m sorry if I’m going to disappoint you, but I’d…

Uplifted or Well-grounded?

(A “Notes to Self” Series) Quote for Friday, 22 February 2019 “Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche Each of us has our own perspectives. I don’t think there should ever be a reason for us to instantaneously reject or detest someone because…

If you don’t expect anything, you don’t get disappointed.” ― Patricia McCormick, Cut When we hope, we look forward to better things to come. When we are optimistic, we have the propensity to think that it…

The “Thank You” Email that I Should Have Sent

Every workday, I am supposed to write a blog as I’ve declared for myself to do. I am on my second week now on my LinkedIn blogging journey. Since last week, I’ve already been meaning to write this blog. However, I’ve always been finding more reasons not to. The good thing is that I opened…

Top 10 Things to Love About Adelaide

My 14-year-old was already about to write this blog. In fact, he was already typing something when I passed him by sitting in front of his computer, which we had been sharing lately ever since my career has taken a different turn. Yes, it was just an inside joke between us and I would just…

HR Lessons I Got from My Mum

Nanay and her life had made me realise a lot of things. We all have people who have made a difference in our lives one way or another. There are people out there like my mother who we would like to cherish on Mother’s Day but they need not be who we traditionally classify as a “mother.” There are fathers out there who did what is usually considered as a “motherly task.” There are those people who may not be related to us by blood, but they go out of their way to support us all along. What a mother does and could do transcends far beyond mere gender definitions and other customary demarcation lines. We could and should always learn a lesson or two.

This is my third blog. As yesterday was mother’s day, I thought it is but fitting to remember my Nanay (my mother) and the memories I had of her and how such relates to the HR field.
