Book Review: Daniel, Man of God by Dwight L. Moody

Genre: Christian Non-fiction

Through the life of Daniel, Dwight L. Moody explores what it means to live with integrity, faith, and humility in a world that often opposes those values.

Faith Over Position

It is simple to forget that true greatness may emerge from humility and connection with higher values rather than from worldly achievements at a time where success is frequently determined by material money and power. Daniel’s life is an ideal example of the many stories throughout history of people who made the decision to prioritize integrity over expediency. In Moody’s Daniel, Man of God, one of the most revered characters in the Bible is revisited to show how a person’s moral fiber may withstand the corruptions and temptations of a culture that frequently rewards giving in. Daniel’s narrative is still relevant today as it was centuries ago, providing guidance for anybody trying to live a chaste life in a society that demands conformity.

In this inspiring study, Dwight L. Moody traces Daniel’s rise from humble exile to a man of influence in Babylon, showing how his steadfastness earned him both the respect of kings and, more importantly, the favour of God. Daniel’s life demonstrates that success is not always tied to the accumulation of power or wealth, but to a willingness to stand firm in one’s beliefs even in the face of tremendous pressure. Through Moody’s insightful reflections, readers are invited to examine their own lives, contemplating how they can remain true to their values, even when the world seems to push in the opposite direction.

The book underscores the idea that God’s timing and plan are perfect, even if it means enduring hardships or being overlooked in the short term. Through Daniel’s trials, from being thrown into the lions’ den to interpreting troubling dreams for kings, the narrative reflects the deeper assurance that faith can overcome fear, and that humility can outshine ambition. Readers are reminded that while the world often values status, God values character, and it is this unshakable belief that sets Daniel apart as an enduring figure of faithfulness and resilience.

Like a steady flame in a storm, Daniel, Man of God burns with quiet strength, reminding us that true greatness comes not from position, but from unwavering principles.

Does it seem odd that not a single lion even nibbled at him—like they were all on some last-minute Daniel Fast? Either he didn’t appeal as a midnight snack, or the lions had collectively gone vegetarian for the evening! Sure, divine intervention and all; but I gotta wonder if the lions were just sizing him up and thinking, “Not my type.” 🦁😏 It would have just taken one rebellious ‘Scar’ type lion to break with the pride, and Dan would have been done. ⏲️
