(A “Notes to Self” Series)
Quote for Saturday, 16 March 2019
“Happiness is part of who we are. Joy is the feeling.”
― ― Tony DeLiso, Legacy: The Power Within
As I had been starting to type this article, my youngest one and I were on our Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix rerun for the nth time. And do you know what I heard?
“There’s good and bad within each one of us. What matters is which one we choose.”
Yes. Those were Sirius Black’s words to his godson Harry. And I think his words really resonated sense and wisdom. On the fifth installment of the series, Potter fans would have already known Harry as a protagonist and not the other way around. Yet his conversation with Sirius highlighted his vulnerabilities. His godfather, though, still thought he still had a choice to go for what was good even if evil seemed to be already getting the better part of him.
For each of us is a human being who has a propensity to err. We all have the potential to be and do good. God even created us in His own likeness, remember?
A case in point again is “me” this morning. With everything that’s going on and so many things that built up over time, the inevitable moment happened again as expected.
Yes, again. I felt bad thereafter.
However, just like anything in our world, things can be resolved if we just focus on that and if we are to work with each other to make things right and better.
Lunchtime came. It turned out to be as if nothing really happened a few hours earlier.
That is precisely what it is and should be for all of us, I think.
Thus, let us not give up on each other. Let us not become the reason somebody gives up. Let us not allow darkness to overcome the light.
Instead, let us give each other another opportunity to make up for any past infraction. Let us be the reason for somebody to keep on trying, to keep on going. Let us be that beacon of light in dark and desperate situations. Let us be the reason someone could smile again.
Let us choose wisely.
May we all help each other be and do the best.
And, for what we’ve done that couldn’t just be readily flicked off instantaneously because they are beyond our normal human limitations, may we all get that chance at that promise of redemption. God never gave up on us; He won’t ever.
