Letting Go and Letting It Be

(A Notes to Self Series)

Quote for Tuesday, 12 March 2019

“You don’t always need a plan. Sometimes you just need to breathe, trust, let go, and see what happens.”

-Mandy Hale

What should I write today?

That’s a good question. I’ve already prepared the skeleton of this post last night. All I had to do was fill in the words that’ll tie up its contents to my planned featured quote.

You might be asking why I didn’t just go straight away to writing the whole article.

There are several reasons why. I wanted to prove if the message behind this quote would really work for me. I’d like to really walk my talk this time around.

I’m a long-term planner or that’s what I think I am. In more recent years, I’ve been learning to take each day as they come and what it takes to respond instinctively to situations as they arise. For someone used to planning, executing, managing, expecting, and reviewing results, taking it easy is only easy said but not when done. This article is a test of how I’ve gone so far in going beyond my comfort zone of being too organised.

Without a clear plan, I am now finding myself a bit lost. I’ve just finished my goal today of reading two full books a few minutes ago, and my mind is already having the classic case of information overload. Add to that the fact that the books weren’t the only text-filled visuals that my eyes have set on over the last few hours.

What should I do then?

I really am not too sure.

However, just like any other out-of-the-blue or unexpected phenomenon, I’ve just got to wing it. I’m taking this like a survival trial or my mini version of the Survivor in the Writing World challenge that I have to get through.

Now what does one do when faced with such a life or death scenario?

You grapple with whatever you’ve got.

What do I have now then?

Heaps. Here are some of them:

We need to work for what’s really best. We have to give things our best shot. We need to bear our own crosses. We need to face those challenges. We need to toil it out. We need to work hard for what we aim for. If we want it badly enough, then we should really work for it with the best effort we’ve got. However, there are battles that are not for us to face. In those kinds of battles, we need to learn to let go and let things be. In such cases, we’ve got to learn to trust, have faith, and leave it to the One who would be able to fight that battle on our behalf.

At this point, I might fail to give this post a fitting end. Yet I won’t worry. I’ll wait and see what would happen eventually.

How about you? What have you set yourself to do today? How do you plan on doing that?

I’m looking forward to knowing your thoughts.
