A Fresh Start

(A Notes to Self Series)

Quote for Monday, 11 March 2019

“With a new day comes new strength and new thoughts.”

-Eleanor Roosevelt

Today is Monday. For most of us, it’s the first day of the working week. For my family, the kids are at home. We don’t have the usual early morning school rush. Why?

Well, here in Adelaide , it’s a public holiday. It’s Adelaide Cup day!

Having mentioned this, I‘ve just been reminded of one of my 2016 earliest blogs about our beloved city. Although our city has slid down from top 5 most livable city in the world into 2018’s # 8, its rank still isn’t bad considering the number of cities that it had to contend with. Thus, I could say that what I’ve written for my blog in 2016 are still true at the moment.

Sydney may have been the first one to make us fall in love with Australia when Jun had his 2006 Hydrography training, Adelaide made our dream of being together as a family come true. Here, we had a fresh start.

It’s not that we weren’t grateful for the stable and very noble job that my other half Jun and I had when we were still naval officers in the Philippines. We are thankful. Like you and everyone else, our present is a product of what we had been and done in the past amidst circumstances along with people whose paths we’ve crossed.

However, seeing the kids happier, smarter, more confident, achieving more, and having brighter prospects for their future is a great indication of the blessing that we really have to thank our great God for now. We also know that there are better things ahead to look forward to. We also hope to have the real capacity and right opportunity to become a channel of God’s blessings to others, too, in one way or another. (No. I’m not preaching to you. I’m just expressing my notes to self, as before.)

Today is another chance to rectify the errors of yesterday, to carry on the good work, and to achieve those important goals. Eleanor Roosevelt, our quote source today, had an unhappy childhood having been orphaned at a young age but partnered with her equally admirable four-term president and paraplegic husband Franklin D Roosevelt in positively affecting others’ lives in her own way, in general and not necessarily politically (because I’d rather remain apolitical and non-partisan as before). Like her, let’s leave the bad memories of the past and create good ones for today and tomorrow.

May we all have enough strength and the right thoughts to make that positive difference today and in the future.

Let’s seize the day! Carpe diem.

How about you? What have you set yourself to do today? How do you plan on doing that?

I’m looking forward to knowing your thoughts.
