Flawed yet Loved

(A “Notes to Self” Series)

Quote for Sunday, 17 February 2019

“Truly the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,
on those who hope in his steadfast love…”

― Psalm 33:18

Today’s bible verse is anchored on God’s omniscience, His ability to know everything and that He knows those who fear and who have hope in Him. He could fathom the deepest recesses of our psyche and our being. In fact, He knows us even more than we know ourselves.

The fact about His all-knowing powers also comes with at least two possibilities just as there are two sides in every coin. Its message may not be as earthly or mundane as that of the manifestation of human monetary currency, but its truth could also have its facets.

On the one hand, He might find our fear and hope in His love way below what’s ideal. What could happen to us if that’s the case? We all know that He is omnipotent, too. What would befall us if we get to meet His wrath? Should we go to hell and suffer eternal damnation?

On the other hand, it’s also possible that we would be able to meet the required standards. But, how do we know what’s right? What are the correct parameters? Even if we manage to do what’s good in His eyes for one day or a week, what if we err again thereafter?

I think that the good thing about our God is that He is full of mercy and compassion, too. He forgives. He even gave us His only Son to save us from our sins. Undeserving we may often (if not always) tend to be, but that’s just that – God truly loves us.

Should we keep doing things that betray that love? Or should we pay it forward by treating others even our detractors the way He would want us to instead?

If a stone is to be cast, I definitely won’t be someone who would and could. This day is one of those days that I am reminded of my frailty as well as the need to strive to do as I should.

I won’t be inclined to engage in a lengthy, technical, detailed or painstaking religious discussion with anyone, and I won’t pretend that I am a subject matter expert. What I know, though, is that God is good and that He is faithful no matter what. Regardless, there’s always hope.

Happy Sunday and God bless, everyone!
